Developing student innovators
The Buckeye Space Launch Initiative was founded with the goal of reaching space. We have become so much more by enabling students to become innovators and expand research and technology in the aerospace industry. From our competitive teams in rocketry to our liquid engine development program, we encourage students to innovate, get their hands dirty, and learn. Each project has different goals and restrictions, giving a wide range of options to choose from.
Our Projects
BSLI – SL
Want to help NASA’s mission to return to the moon and beyond? Members of the BSLI- SL project gets to develop creative solutions to a set of payload challenges in the NASA student launch competition, which is part of the Artemis Program.
BSLI – SAC
Have the desire to fly high? Our BSLI – SAC team designs, builds and launches a high-powered rocket and payload system to 30,000 feet. This team has it all, from getting hands-on experience with solid propellants to designing custom PCBs or laying up carbon fiber.
BSLI – Liquids
Have you ever wanted to get hands-on with a liquid rocket engine? Or maybe go faster and higher into space? Our Liquids team is working to design our first custom liquid engine that will act as a stepping stone in our quest to the Karmen line.

The Buckeye Space Launch Initiative is a group of ambitious engineers, students, innovators, and passionate individuals. Standing proud on top of a foundation formed with support from Ohio State College of Engineering, Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence, Battelle Center for Science, Engineering, and Public Policy, among others.

BSLI – Cert
Your journey in high-power rocketry begins with a level 1 certification. BSLI offers members the opportunity to build and launch a high-power rocket in order to obtain their level 1 cert.
BSLI – Club Events
While we enjoy building rockets, we also enjoy doing other activities. We host various events, from movie nights to ice skating, during the school year. We are always trying to plan new events.
